Toad, Snake & Iguana Repellent in Weston, FL

Quick answer
To keep cane toads, snakes, and iguanas off a Weston yard, lay a three-foot band of ReptilesAway granular powder along the lake bank, pool-cage footer, foundation, and hedge lines they cross, and refresh it every 2–3 weeks. Order the powder from the shop or book a local treatment through 1-833-8REPTILES (1-833-873-7845).

The last city before the Everglades

Weston is the westernmost city in Broward, bordered by the Everglades on two sides, with I-75 and Alligator Alley on the east and north and US-27 through the west. Almost all of it is gated, master-planned, and built around water: Weston Hills and its two golf courses, Savanna's roughly 2,800 homes, The Ridges, the Isles at Weston, Windmill Ranch Estates, Windmill Reserve, Windmill Lake Estates, Country Isles, Emerald Estates, San Messina, San Sebastian, The Lakes, The Islands, The Meadows, North Lakes, and the older Bonaventure district on the north. The city's own stormwater system is a network of retention lakes and canals draining south to the C-11 (the South New River Canal) and north to the New River Canal, both of which run straight out to the Everglades. Screened pools are standard.

That is why cane toads are the number-one call from Weston, not seawall iguanas. The city itself published a warning titled "Dog Killer: The Cane Toad." Toads breed in the retention lakes and the Acme-style canal system, come up after every summer rain, and sit on the pool deck, under the landscape lights, and by the dog bowl; they are toxic to dogs. Cuban tree frogs come out of the same lakes onto lit lanai screens and into pump housings.

Snakes and pythons are a real Weston story

In 2025 a Broward newspaper documented six python sightings in Weston in a single summer — near a pond a quarter-mile from the Everglades, in a garden by I-75, off Griffin Road, against a house foundation, crossing a housing development, and coiled around prey in a pond. Researchers point out that pythons travel through water, and Weston's lakes and canals are the water. Native snakes — cottonmouths, rat snakes, and the occasional rattlesnake — move up into mulch beds and wood piles after heavy rain, especially on lots bordering the C-11 Impoundment, Markham Park, and Peace Mound Park.

Green iguanas are third on the list but present on every lake bank and along the C-11, where they burrow into the banks and strip hibiscus and orchids on the way to the pool. Markham Park lists invasive iguanas among its wildlife, and Sawgrass Recreation Park on US-27 keeps them as an exhibit.

Where to lay the band in Weston

Lake homes (Savanna, The Ridges, The Lakes, Isles at Weston): a continuous band along the top of the lake bank, the outside footer of the pool cage, the lake-facing hedge, and a ring around each low landscape light and the pool-equipment pad. Golf-course lots in Weston Hills and Bonaventure: the fairway-side hedge as well. Lots near I-75, Griffin Road, or the C-11: the fence line facing the canal or wetland, wood piles, and the mulch beds against the house.

Weston is about 20 miles west of our Fort Lauderdale base via I-595, on the same route as Davie and Southwest Ranches. A typical Savanna or Weston Hills pool lot is a 32 oz job; a Windmill Reserve estate or an HOA lake bank is the 5-gal bucket.

The solution

A barrier you control, from five ingredients you can read.

ReptilesAway is a granular powder, not a spray, made from five ingredients — sodium chloride, citric acid, lemongrass oil, peppermint oil, and garlic oil — and formulated as an EPA FIFRA 25(b) minimum-risk pesticide — made only from ingredients on the EPA's minimum-risk list, so it is exempt from federal registration. One application lasts 2–3 weeks. The 32 oz bag is $24.99 and covers 1,500 sq ft; the 5-gal bucket is $164.99 and covers 30,000 sq ft. Made with food-grade and botanical ingredients. As with any product, keep pets from eating it directly and check the ingredient list if your pet has known sensitivities to any of them. Local treatment is priced by quote with no contracts — call 1-833-8REPTILES (1-833-873-7845).

How it works

Three steps. You run them.

1

Find the travel lines

Walk your Weston property and flag the routes reptiles use — lakeshores, foundation lines, mulch beds, the gaps under a fence.

2

Lay the band

Shake a three-foot band of powder along those lines. No spray, no fogger, nothing to dry — fine around the pool and patio.

3

Reapply on schedule

One pass lasts two to three weeks. Reapply after a heavy rain or every couple of weeks through the long season.

Weston FAQ

Questions about Weston.

Our dog keeps finding toads on the lanai in Savanna. What do I treat, and how often?

Ring each low landscape light and the pool-equipment pad, and run the band along the outside footer of the cage and the lake-facing hedge, since toads come up from the retention lake after rain. Reapply every two weeks from May through October, and keep dogs away from any toad you find.

A python was seen in our neighborhood near I-75. Does a repellent do anything?

It makes the mulch beds, fence line, and foundation edge unpleasant to cross, which is the goal on an Everglades-edge lot — treat the canal- or wetland-facing side, wood piles, and beds against the house. It is not a removal service. Report any python to the FWC and keep pets away.

Can our HOA have the shared lake banks in The Ridges or Isles at Weston treated?

Yes. We walk the bank with the manager, mark the sunning spots and hedge lines iguanas use to reach homes and the areas toads emerge from, and send a per-visit quote for a single treatment or a recurring schedule with no annual contract. Shared banks usually take the 5-gal bucket.
