East Boca: canals, Lake Boca, and the Inlet
Boca Raton's own iguana page says it plainly: the city does not capture or remove iguanas on private property. That leaves the East Boca waterfront to handle itself, and there is a lot of it. Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club, The Sanctuary, Lake Rogers Isle, Boca Bay Colony, Bel Marra, Boca Harbour, Boca Keys, Boca Islands, Golden Harbour, Por La Mar, and Spanish River Land sit on the Intracoastal, Lake Boca Raton, Lake Wyman, Lake Rogers, and the El Rio Canal — 1950s–70s canal ranches rebuilt into estates, with a seawall, a dock, and a hibiscus hedge on every lot. The Hillsboro Canal on the south line and the C-15 on the north feed the whole system, and local trappers describe the canals and lagoons as expressways for green iguanas. They sun on the seawall cap, burrow into the fill behind it — private removal firms name Royal Palm, The Sanctuary, Por La Mar, and Lake Rogers Isle as places where burrows have contributed to seawall failures — and strip the landscaping on the way to the pool. Gumbo Limbo, Red Reef Park, and Spanish River Park keep the barrier island stocked.
Central and West Boca: golf lakes, pools, and toads
West of I-95 the water is fresh and the problem shifts. Boca West's four courses and 1,400 acres, Broken Sound's 27 villages, St. Andrews, Woodfield, The Oaks, Boca Pointe, Boca Lago, Boca Grove, Stonebridge, Boca Woods, and the Boca del Mar subdivisions are gated club communities built around retention lakes, with a screened pool behind nearly every home. Farther west, Boca Falls, Boca Bridges, Lotus, Saturnia, Loggers' Run, Mission Bay, and Boca Isles run out toward US-441 and the Loxahatchee refuge. Those lakes breed cane toads and Cuban tree frogs; a Boca newspaper reported a spike in cane-toad activity with the 2026 rainy season, and local vets post bufo-toad warnings every summer. Toads sit on pool decks and under landscape lights after rain and are toxic to dogs; tree frogs cover lanai screens and pump housings. Iguanas work the lake banks and golf ponds here too. Older mid-century streets — Camino Gardens, Old Floresta, Boca Square, Palm Beach Farms, Royal Oak Hills — get geckos and anoles at every lit entryway.
Where to lay the band in Boca Raton
Waterfront (Royal Palm, The Sanctuary, Lake Rogers Isle, Boca Harbour): a continuous band on the dry seawall cap, the dock landing, the lawn strip to the pool, and the base of the hedge. Club and lake communities (Boca West, Broken Sound, Boca Pointe, Saturnia): the top of the lake bank, the outside footer of the pool cage, the lake- or fairway-facing hedge, and a ring around each low landscape light and the pool-equipment pad. West Boca lots near 441 and the refuge: the fence line facing open ground and the mulch beds against the house.
Boca Raton is about 21 miles north of our Fort Lauderdale base, on our regular route with Deerfield Beach and Delray Beach. A Royal Palm or Sanctuary lot with a long seawall is a 5-gal job; a Boca West villa or a Camino Gardens home is a 32 oz bag. Club communities can request a common-area lake-bank walk-through.
A barrier you control, from five ingredients you can read.
ReptilesAway is a granular powder, not a spray, made from five ingredients — sodium chloride, citric acid, lemongrass oil, peppermint oil, and garlic oil — and formulated as an EPA FIFRA 25(b) minimum-risk pesticide — made only from ingredients on the EPA's minimum-risk list, so it is exempt from federal registration. One application lasts 2–3 weeks. The 32 oz bag is $24.99 and covers 1,500 sq ft; the 5-gal bucket is $164.99 and covers 30,000 sq ft. Made with food-grade and botanical ingredients. As with any product, keep pets from eating it directly and check the ingredient list if your pet has known sensitivities to any of them. Local treatment is priced by quote with no contracts — call 1-833-8REPTILES (1-833-873-7845).

Three steps. You run them.
Find the travel lines
Walk your Boca Raton property and mark the reptile routes — seawalls near the lakes, foundation lines, pool-cage edges, the landscaping beds iguanas strip bare.
Lay the band
Shake a three-foot band of powder along those lines. No spray, no fogger, nothing to dry — fine to lay down around the pool and patio.
Reapply on schedule
One application holds two to three weeks. Reapply after a downpour or every couple of weeks through the long iguana season.
Questions about Boca Raton.
The city says it will not remove iguanas from my Lake Rogers Isle property. What can I do myself?
Take the seawall off their route. Lay a band on the dry seawall cap, the dock landing, and the lawn strip to the pool, and reapply every two weeks in summer. Fill any burrow you find and trim branches that overhang the water. If the cap has already dropped, have a marine contractor look at it.
Toads cover our Boca West pool deck after every rain. Where does the powder go?
Along the outside footer of the pool cage, the lake- or fairway-facing hedge, and in a ring around each low landscape light and the pool-equipment pad, since that is where cane toads sit after dark. Keep the band fresh May through October and keep dogs away from any toad — cane toads are toxic to them.
Can a club community like Broken Sound or Boca Pointe have shared lake banks treated?
Yes. We walk the banks with the property manager, mark the sunning spots and the hedge lines iguanas use to reach homes, and send a per-visit quote for a single treatment or a recurring schedule with no annual contract. Shared banks usually take the 5-gal bucket.
Take back your Boca Raton yard.
From Royal Palm to Boca West, the fix is the same: a granular line where the reptiles travel. Run it yourself, or let our crew handle the whole thing.
