Jupiter's reptile problem runs along the water
Jupiter is shaped by the Loxahatchee River. Its three forks meet in the central embayment and leave through Jupiter Inlet, which is also where the Intracoastal ends. Every property that touches that system — Pennock Point, the Islands of Jupiter, River Ridge, Admirals Cove, Jonathan's Landing, the small docks on Sims Creek and Jones Creek — has a warm, sun-lit shoreline, and that is exactly where green iguanas settle. They burrow into the bank behind a seawall, sun on the dock, and strip hibiscus and bougainvillea on the way to the pool.
The burrowing is not cosmetic. During the February 2026 cold snap, the Bureau of Land Management pulled cold-stunned iguanas off the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area and pointed to the same thing riverfront owners see: burrows loosening the shoreline. In those same two days, residents dropped hundreds of iguanas at the FWC office in Tequesta. A cold morning thins them out for a week; it does not change the habitat, and the river keeps refilling the shoreline with new animals through spring.
West of I-95 the problem changes
Head out Indiantown Road past Riverbend Park and the C-18 Canal into Jupiter Farms and Palm Beach Country Estates, and iguanas become a secondary issue. These are acre-plus lots without an HOA, backed by drainage canals, woods, and the Loxahatchee Slough. Local news has named Jupiter Farms among the Palm Beach County areas where snake sightings rise after heavy rain — pygmy rattlesnakes, eastern diamondbacks, coral snakes, and cottonmouths moving up out of flooded ground into mulch beds, wood piles, and barn edges. Cuban tree frogs and cane toads follow the same rain into pool cages and lit patios; cane toads are toxic to dogs, and a Jupiter Farms yard with a pond or a canal behind it is the classic place for a dog to find one at night.
Abacoa sits in between: 1990s–2000s master-planned streets, screened pools on almost every block, community lakes, and a lot of night lighting. That combination pulls tree frogs and geckos onto windows and pool cages, with iguanas working the lake banks.
How to run a barrier in Jupiter
Start where the animal enters, not where you see it. On the river and Intracoastal, that is the top of the seawall, the dock landing, and the strip of grass between the water and the pool cage. In Jupiter Farms, it is the canal bank, the fence line, and the mulch beds against the house. In Abacoa, it is the pool-cage footer and the lake-side hedge. Shake a continuous three-foot band along those lines, and add a ring around any ground-level light or pond pump that frogs and toads sit under.
Jupiter is the far north end of our Palm Beach County service area, roughly 60 miles from our Fort Lauderdale base, so we group Jupiter, Tequesta, and Juno Beach visits and give you a date when you book. A riverfront lot with a long seawall usually wants the 5-gal bucket; an Abacoa pool home is comfortably a 32 oz job.
A barrier you control, from five ingredients you can read.
ReptilesAway is a granular powder, not a spray, made from five ingredients — sodium chloride, citric acid, lemongrass oil, peppermint oil, and garlic oil — and formulated as an EPA FIFRA 25(b) minimum-risk pesticide — made only from ingredients on the EPA's minimum-risk list, so it is exempt from federal registration. One application lasts 2–3 weeks. The 32 oz bag is $24.99 and covers 1,500 sq ft; the 5-gal bucket is $164.99 and covers 30,000 sq ft. Made with food-grade and botanical ingredients. As with any product, keep pets from eating it directly and check the ingredient list if your pet has known sensitivities to any of them. Local treatment is priced by quote with no contracts — call 1-833-8REPTILES (1-833-873-7845).

Three steps. You run them.
Find the travel lines
Walk your Jupiter property and flag the routes reptiles use — Inlet seawalls, riverbanks, pool-cage edges, the gaps under a gate.
Lay the band
Shake a three-foot band of powder along those lines. No spray, no fogger, nothing to dry — fine around the pool and patio.
Reapply on schedule
One pass lasts two to three weeks. Reapply after a heavy rain or every couple of weeks through the long iguana season.
Questions about Jupiter.
Will the powder hold up on a Loxahatchee River seawall that gets wet at high tide?
Lay the band on the dry cap and the grass strip behind the seawall rather than the wet face. Tidal splash and a hard rain shorten the interval, so riverfront owners in Pennock Point or Admirals Cove should plan on reapplying every two weeks in wet season instead of every three.
Does ReptilesAway work on the snakes we see in Jupiter Farms after heavy rain?
It is a repellent barrier, not a removal service, so it works by making mulch beds, fence lines, and foundation edges unpleasant to cross. Run it along the canal side of the lot and around wood piles and barns. If you find a rattlesnake or cottonmouth in the open, leave it and call a licensed trapper.
Can I use it around a pool cage in Abacoa where tree frogs and toads show up at night?
Yes. Shake a band along the outside footer of the cage and around any low landscape lighting, since that is where Cuban tree frogs and cane toads sit. Nothing is sprayed and nothing has to dry, so the pool stays usable, and the ring can be refreshed after a storm.
Take back your Jupiter yard.
From the Loxahatchee to Jupiter Farms, the fix is the same: a granular line where the reptiles travel. Run it yourself, or let our crew handle the whole thing.
